the susan woo event
14 Sep

Faryn and I arrived on the patio of the Hudson Hotel for Susan Woo‘s Fashion Week presentation about an hour before it was set to begin. It was a drizzly, early Saturday morning, but everyone was in good spirits and excited to see Susan’s designs on the models.
After Faryn and I handed our Fanny & Jane Carrot Coconut Cupcakes and Red Velvet Cake Bites off to the hotel kitchen so that they could be plated and passed around by waiters, we realized that we didn’t have anything else to do but kick back and enjoy the event!
Neither one of us had ever been to anything Fashion Week related before, so this was an exciting first. As I mentioned in a previous post, the Hudson Hotel is absolutely stunning. While we waited for the presentation to begin, we tucked ourselves into a little table in one of the dark, soothing hallways, gossiped and finished our egg sandwiches. We soon realized that the models had taken their places on the platforms, surrounded by the beautiful architecture and foliage, and we scurried back onto the patio to get a closer look.

I really liked a lot of the pieces the models were wearing and Faryn had a few favorites too. It was fun to imagine ourselves fitting into them. Everyone seemed to enjoy the treats too. I loved the way the fancy dishes looked with our sweets neatly arranged. We got several very nice compliments from some of the guests, including the moment we caught a glimpse of a particularly eager guest loading her napkin up with as many cake bites as would fit into it, and then stuffing them into her purse “for her kids.” Yeah. Right. Those nachos I ate last weekend were for my kids too.
While the presentation continued, and the models changed outfits, and the press chatted with Susan, Faryn and I had a few gratis beverages, enjoyed some of our own sweets, and indulged in some much needed girlie catch-up time.

The slightly crooked glasses and creepy smile made me look even more out of place. Even so, I felt right at home.

Eventually, I had to scoot so I could catch a 2pm bus to Boston (where The Baldwins performed at the Boston Improv Festival!), so Faryn and I said our goodbyes to our new cater waiter friends and to Susan’s team, and headed back through the stunning Hudson Hotel lobby where we snapped a few photos of the fashion presentation from behind.

It was a really fun, unique morning and I was glad to experience it. Susan Woo is such a sweetheart, and we were happy to help her out by providing sweets for the event. I only hope she got to taste something! She told us she has a serious sweet tooth herself.
