(Update: While we’re on the subject of Harvard Sailing Team, this review from Jeff Kreisler at IFC dot com just came out about us. Thanks, Jeff!)
For the last two years in late May, Harvard Sailing Team has trekked down to Charleston, South Carolina to perform a week’s worth of shows as part of the world renowned Piccolo Spoleto Festival.
Charleston is a beautiful city and I fell in love with it after one visit. The people are awesome, the food is delicious and there’s a lot of fun stuff to see.
Our sketch comedy has always been well received in Charleston – they laugh at our jokes and they seem to like our singing and dancing. And even though we’re usually working hard the entire time we’re down there, the opportunity to get out of the city as a team (along with Kevin, who is our flawless tech guy), eat big meals, meet new people and sun ourselves every day is great way to reconnect with each other. The first year we stayed in a hotel, but last year we stayed in a big, beautiful house. All 10 of us. It was a dream and a nightmare come true.
We’re not going to Charleston this year – our schedules just won’t allow it. As much as I’m glad not to have to fit a week out of town into my life right now, I am going to miss the trip.
Billy took almost all of these photos, which are from last year’s trip.
